5 DAYS BUKIT LAWANG TREKKING & TANGKAHAN THE ELEPHANT JUNGLE TOUR: ADVENTURE, JUNGLE, RIVER, ANIMALS
Itinerary:
DAY 01: ARRIVAL MEDAN – BUKIT LAWANG / 3,5 hours’ drive
Arrive at Kuala Namu International Airport with flight…
You will be warmly welcomed by our driver with your name written on a piece of paper. Drive to Bukit Lawang, the conservation of the Orangutans located in Gunung Leuser National Park by landscape with vast view of palm oil and rubber plantation. En-route it’s possible to stop at rubber, oil palm and cacao plantations with some countryside landscape (optional). Arrive in Bukit Lawang, check-in hotel. All accommodations in Bukit Lawang are guesthouses at the best breathtaking location on the bank of Bohorok River with the surrounding jungle, simple, good clean with own bathroom. No warm water is available. You will meet the professional local guide to prepare for your jungle trekking the next day. Overnight stay in a guesthouse at Bukit Lawang.
DAY 2: BUKIT LAWANG – TREKKING GUNUNG LEUSER NATIONAL PARK (B,L,D)
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will set off on your trekking adventure with an experienced local guide. Walking around 15 minutes past the rubber plantation to the gate of Gunung Leuser National Park. Enter and Continue jungle trekking to explore the park. This world heritage site and wildlife heritage area spans 7927 sq km and is one of the world’s most diverse ecosystems. It’s the home of many endangered species, including the Sumatran tiger, rhinoceros, and elephants. These animals are extremely rare, but you’ll get the chance to go in search of wild orangutans. There used to be an orangutan rehabilitation center here, but now these creatures have all been returned to their natural habitat, so this is your best chance in Indonesia to see orangutans in the wild. This involves an hour’s walk through the jungle to reach the feeding grounds of the Orangutans. Steep, slopes, and dense vegetation will bring you the excitement of the rainforest. And enjoying stop for variety of tropical fruit and Indonesian Lunch packed. In this tropical primary rainforest, our expert guides will help you to maximize the quality of your wildlife encounter. You can see the varieties of: Birds, butterflies, white handed gibbon, hornbills, Thomas leaf monkey, Long Tail Macaca, different kinds of reptiles and a Sumatran Orangutan. During your trekking overnight in the jungle, you will learn the medicinal qualities of the jungle plants. Learn about setting up camp in the Sumatran jungle on arrival to your campsite and assist in building a fire to cook your dinner. Your local guide is well versed in “camp cooking” dining under the stars surrounded by the sounds of the jungle. Overnight in a tent.
DAY 3: JUNGLE TREKKING – BUKIT LAWANG – TANGKAHAN OFF ROAD (B,L)
Breakfast provided by local guides. Enjoy your jungle morning with the sound of birds and gibbon. This morning you will wake up a chorus of wildlife such as the shy gibbon or massive hornbills in search of fruit. The sheer array of sounds will astound you. Venture deeper into the jungle, quietly in the hope of spotting some endemic wildlife such as the magnificent Orangutan. This time in a new direction, promising even more opportunities to encounter the park’s incredible wildlife. Let the lush surroundings envelop you in a natural symphony of sights and sounds. Afternoon returns to Bukit Lawang and directly drives off road to Tangkahan by jeep (2 hours) on a bumpy road through Palm oil plantations and rural villages. Arrive in Tangkahan, a peaceful village located between river and rainforest which is well known as the hidden paradise of Gunung Leuser National Park. You can see rehabilitated Sumatran elephants next morning. Overnight at a guesthouse in Tangkahan.
DAY 4: TANGKAHAN JUNGLE TOUR & OBSERVE THE SUMATRAN ELEPHANT – MEDAN (B,L)
Breakfast at the guesthouse. Set off on your jungle tour for approximately 3 hours. First, you should have made meeting points to Mahout (elephant officer) before making observation with the elephants. Here you can observe the elephants and take photos from a distance of about 50 meters. You can stay there for about an hour. Afterwards you continue to the Buluh river where we will have a picnic lunch then you can enjoy the charm of colorful butterflies flying around and take a tour along the river, feeling the coolness of nature and the beauty of the surrounding forest and then visit hot spring and waterfall. Afterwards you go back by traditional fun-tube rafting down the Pantai Salak. Afternoon you drive back to Medan for 4 hours’ drive. Check in the hotel. Overnight stay in Medan.
Note: Refer to the worldwide criticism of elephant and animal activities. We do not offer elephant riding or elephant washing. This tour does not include any activities or direct interaction with the elephants. The animals can only be observed from a distance of about 50 meters during their daily bath.
DAY 05: MEDAN CITY – TRANSFER TO AIRPORT
After breakfast at the hotel, free and easy at your own until you pick you up at the hotel and transfer to the airport for your onward flight. End of services.
